Gear Reducer (NMRV Worm)

An NMRV worm gearbox reduces the speed of a drive motor and multiplies its torque in a single compact right-angle unit. The worm and wheel arrangement turns the drive through ninety degrees, which is frequently what allows a drive to fit into a space an in-line reducer could never occupy.

Worm gearing has one property that decides many applications: at higher ratios it tends toward self-locking, so the output resists being back-driven by the load. That is why NMRV units are standard on conveyors, hoists, mixers, gates and packaging machinery, where a load must not creep once power is removed. The aluminium housing keeps weight down and sheds heat well.
